The silhouette of the Roche de Solutré surprises us as it seems out of place in the region’s hilly landscape: like a sphinx in the middle of the vineyards, it seems to be watching over its visitors. Feel free to climb up it: from its summit, the panorama is spectacular. Undoubtedly one of the most wonderful archaeological sites in Burgundy, it’s been occupied by several civilisations since Palaeolithic times. The discovery of 100 000 skeletons of horses at its base gave birth to the legend of the hunt to the abyss.
