Clos de Vougeot

Along a narrow strip of land, stretching from the route out of Dijon to the Maranges, vines grow on the hillsides. A road, the famous Route des Grands Crus®, a true tourist guide in itself, crosses the Côtes de Nuits and Côtes de Beaune and their Hautes-Côtes. It’s lined by no less than 33 villages and small towns with their welcoming cellars and treasures of art and history, including the famous Clos de Vougeot. This château is today the emblem of the wine country for all visitors and wine lovers around the world. It is here in the midst of the vineyards that the monks of Cîteaux built a winery and "cellier" (wine estate) in the 12th century.

Also visit: nearby, Citeaux Abbey, the cradle of the Cistercian order.
