Cultural Heritage

Located at the gateway to the Morvan, Autun is the ancient capital of the Eduens. A visit to the town is a true journey back in time: it has preserved important remains and buildings from Gallo-Roman and medieval times. Its theatre was the largest of its kind in the western part of the Roman Empire and its medieval district offers exceptional treasures, including Saint-Lazare Cathedral (12th century), a major work of Cluniac art, whose sculptures of Gilbertus are masterpieces of Romanesque art.

Also visit: the Temple of Janus, the Rolin Museum, the Saint-André and Arroux gates, the Couhard Pyramid.
